Wot? Already?

Yes, already. Tomorrow we start the long trip to Australia, although we'll just get as far as London on the first day. Fly out to Sydney on Saturday night.

I haven't been allowing myself to get particularly excited about it because various things have conspired to make me fear that we would not get to go, but that all seems to be sorted and now I am starting to really look forward to it, although it has crept up on me somewhat.

This is the longest trip we have ever planned to Oz and also the most exciting. Five days in Sydney, followed by a flight to Darwin, a two day trip to the Kakadu National Park, then a trip on The Ghan from Darwin to Adelaide, followed by a week with our friends in New South Wales.

It will take me months to blog that lot when we get back! On the up side there should be shed loads of fantastic pictures.

Psst! Wanna see some knitting?

I was browsing the blog last night and reflecting that functionally  it's almost as good as Oscar Wilde's diary, except that's it tends to the funny rather than the sensational, and I realised how long it was since I had put up any knitting pictures. (Apart from the blocking post, obviously) Anyone would think I had stopped knitting. But I haven't and here are the photos to prove it. Stand by for a preponderance of socks....

Obviously this isn't socks! Keener eyed readers will spot a likeness between this and a previous piece; it's the same pattern as I used for a jacket for Marcus way back but in different colours. Love how this pattern turns out and it is fairly mindless knitting; doesn't half seem to go on for ever though.

Pipsqueak socks - Mine! Knitting Goddess 'Pudding' sock club from sometime in 2015

Charity Socks - for Warm Up North

Carborundum socks. The yarn is a lot brighter and more green than the picture shows. Yarn from the current Knitting Goddess 'Return to the Discworld' club, and these are a birthdays present for  family member.

Socks for the OH, who does love his feet to be decked out in bright colours. Can't get much brighter than this 'Sorcerers Eyes' self striping, again form the KG.

Mine again. Yarn (Schoppelwolle) purchased in The Yarn Cake in Glasgow late last year. Too pretty to leave on the shelf for someone else to buy.

For me again - this is almost vintage status as it's Everglot from the KG sock club 2012. I have done six of the twelve patterns now though, so that's progress. This was a lovely pattern to knit and if there weren't so many other lovely patterns out there I might well have used this one again.

Three more pairs for Warm Up North

This was a cowl I knitted for a swap. The recipient wanted a big cowl in a chunky yarn and earthy colours. Not necessarily my sort of thing, but she loved it which was all that mattered really.

Winter warmers for grandson no. 2. I've never been a big fan of knitting baby clothes in chunky wool but I impulse bought this in Stromness last autumn, probably because I had been looking at the pattern only the previous day. It's a funny thing but for all my reluctance whenever I use this pattern the finished article looks really good. Anyway hopefully this will help keep out the Canadian winter for a few months.

More socks for me. KG The Luggage self striping yarn. The picture here has not done a good job of the colour reproduction. The wool is a coral-y, grey and olive green stripe.

and two doll jumpers, one with co-ordinating hat and scarf.

Phew! I have another scarf/shawlette thing blocking just now and then just two other live projects, both socks. A patterned two colour pair for me and a plain pair for Warm Up North. When we come back from Oz I might cast on something other than socks, just to be different. Who can say?
